"From two water bottles to 12kg" by Sheena Horner

Now I'm hoping that title has got you intrigued or are you thinking what on earth is she on about! I'm guessing you're thinking of the second.

Anyway to the blog. You may have seen on my social media that I am a fan of a class called Lockdown Lifters (LL) and if you haven't then where have you been?! LL is a class that was devised by Dianne Riddell after her business basically disappeared overnight due to the pandemic but thankfully for me and many others she took her fitness class online and also started a new class - LL. This is a programme done over 8 weeks (4 classes per week) with each class being roughly twenty minutes long and a mix of weights followed by a tabata (high-intensity interval training) and yes I had never heard of tabata either until I started this class.

Lockdown Lifters has been fantastic for me. We are now in the fourth programme and when I started it I didn't own weights and was using two 500ml water bottles but I got hooked from day one, very quickly ordered a set of weights (I now have erm quite a few sets) and I have gradually built up the weight I am lifting through each programme that by LL 4, I am now lifting 12kg.

But that is not all:

  • I have seen a big difference in my body

  • I am able to take time out from work and switch off to do a class which helps me relax

  • I am seeing a big difference in my running (both time and distance)

  • AND I am losing weight (this has taken a while but think this was because I initially put on weight due to building muscle)

  • I am part of a network of like minded people who are very supportive but who I have never actually met

  • and I'm not as self concious

Bet you are thinking self conscious, what has that got to do with a fitness class? Well what I am meaning is that I've seen my running improve and it has given me the courage to now join the local running club too. I'm probably the slowest there but I am determined to improve whereas a year ago I would never have even considered joining.

And I am still pushing myself, I was happy running 5km's but I have managed 4 x 10km's this year now and at the end of this month I am running yet another as part of the virtual Great Glen Challenge for RSABI. YES I LOVE Lockdown Lifters!"

Huge thanks to Sheena from https://foodfromfarming.co.uk/home for providing today's guest blog and giving us an insight into her experiences about the benefits of working with weights. I'm always on the lookout for content so feel free to message me with any ideas you have for a feature. In the meantime why not hop onto Sheena's page and check out her passion for sustainable, local produce.
